Belleek China - Belleek Three Handle Cup
(Limited Edition – 1000 Pieces) 3.75” Tall.

This rare piece was designed sometime within the second period between 1891 and 1926. Possibly made as a test piece, it has never been featured in any of Belleek’s catalogues. The ancient Greeks made three-handled vessels, called Hydria, designed to carry water from wells. Presumably three handles made it easier for two people to carry these containers. Three-handled cups, based on the Greek designs, came into vogue in the early part of the 20th Century as fashionable decorative pieces. It is likely that Belleek followed this trend, adding its distinctive Irish flavor.
